Cases

You have graduated from college. You did well. A rich uncle wants to give you a graduation gift: he offers to pay $15,000 for each of the next two years ($30K total) to fund a vacation each of those years.

The uncle requires you present him with a plan - “an application” - that he approves before he deposits the money in a trust. You can take one companion on the trip.

The uncle stipulates that the vacations must be John Muir themed, in a general sense follow in his footsteps, visiting places he actually traveled.

You are in your late 20s. You did well in college, went to graduate school, and have been successful so far in your chosen career working in “The City.” You and your fiancé(e) have received good job offers near your hometown for after the wedding in a couple of months. You both have decided to take the jobs and move back.

As a wedding present, your rich grandmother has offered to pay up to half the cost of a new home — up to $250,000 toward a $500,000 house. You must get a mortgage for the rest.

Grandma requires you present her with a plan — “an application” — that she approves before she deposits the money in a trust. You will eventually need a broker, but Grandma wants you to do the research first and narrow it down to three candidate houses before contacting anyone.

You are entering senior year of high school. You enjoy playing computer games and have shown a knack for programming. An up-and-coming gaming company is offering scholarships to students who can demonstrate their creativity and skill by designing and implementing a simple game.

The company doesn’t care about flashy graphics or action. They want to see a simple game that’s intriguing, fun to play, and that educates or develops a skill. You can model it on any existing game as long as you add your own twist — a historical, musical, or scientific angle, for example.

Develop a concept and use the Unity platform to create a beta version.

You had a great time in St Martin on a vacation with your family. The St Martin tourist board is running a contest offering a free one-week vacation for two to St Martin for the best 2 – 4 minute video created by a high school student. You already have about 60 pictures and 40 videos you and your family took while on the vacation. The deadline for submitting an entry in one month

The Endless Foundation is funding the grant. You must prove you can be the tech and branding person by building a small 3-page website. You have 2 weeks to build it.
